They'll need to implement some sort of way to moderate the chat. Toxicity will be a big issue.

If they do add it, they should only have Team and Squad text. No need to talk to the other team.

This game has some nice, fresh features, so imagine if voip would be only proximity but mages in the teams could here commander, this would force more community interaction and havoc. Yes I can imagine ppl playing Darude but take it or leave it, I think it would be cool thing to have and for sweaty plays we will use discord anyway

I would do it similarly to how planetside 2 does their voice chat. proximity chat for anyone on the same team. Everyone in a squad can talk with each other and the commanders of squads have their own voice chat so they can coordinate together. And I would say no world (both teams) voice chat, that can lead to too much toxicity.

-Normal text chat is a *MUST HAVE*. There are profanity filters, and please don't use AI automated ones as they mute normal words for no reason. (Age of Empires 4 is plagued by this, muting simple words like "yellow" when its playercolors, or "mosque" which is a structure in the game.).
-Not being able to communicate in any way in a multiplayer game like this is "unheard" of, the pings and voice lines are not enough. EU region is going to think this is a bad console port for wrong reasons. I understand combating toxicity as the reason, but this will backfire. Playerbase wouldn't want to be treated like "children" for a lack of a better word.
-A way to mitigate some toxicity could be having only teamchat until the "Victory!/Defeat/Draw!" comes up, after that it's all chat.
-Ways to mute players.
-Spam protection. (automatic mute on players who spam chat)
-Automatic mute on the really bad words? (n-word, f-word, etc I'm not gonna give a list but you catch my drift.)

For this, to limit voice clutter I would suggest the following:
*Command voice that goes between squad leaders and commander.
*Team voice that goes to the squad only.
That way the commander can relay to squad leads who can then follow or ignore etc...

i like the way Hell Let loose does voice chat, note all key press triggered, which I think is important and as a side note, useful to the streamers : -

V to chat with Proximity channel (your team only - mostly dead people screaming Medic!)) - Blue
C to chat with squad - Green
X to chat with Commander (Squad Leaders only) - Orange

While your chat button is depressed and you mike is active the your player name is displayed in the colour of the channel, in the lower left of the screen. This helps you make sure you are speaking in the right channel, and people in the channel can glance down and see who is speaking and in what channel if needed.
E.g. Player 1 asks for heal in proximity - Cleric 1 sees the name asking and looks for t he name bar to pump out the heals.

I think it's mandatory that team voice & text chat be implemented I think if you introduced it and gave a harsh notice going with it of something like if you're constantly labeled as toxic you will be muted until we deem we can lift it again.

I for one am going to lose interest in this game EXTREMELY quickly if we don't get some form of team chat. I feel so useless trying to fight for the catapult or an important tower when outnumbered. I feel useless trying to direct good barrage damage when my team doesn't know I'm planning to use it once we reach X spot. I'm tired of feeling alone when in a game with 99 other players. I love the scale of the game, but it doesn't feel good when I can't work with my team. Hell I can't even tell my squad I'm planning to teleport them in with Cleric to an important flank.

I think if the game improves its ping system and add an announcer, there won't be a need for voice chat or team chat.

As of right now there's too much info for you to read in different parts of the screen, so an icon and sound being placed on the map/game world will be responded much faster than having to type it, and expect everyone to read at the moment.

Any type of chat that isn't premade squad only will be abused for things like flaming people or saying things unrelated to the game. At the moment the game feels nice and casual, adding someone screaming "hey what are you doing!?" in commander only voice chat would turn this into a job.

Also, adding a mute button and voice chat volume option (which are both a must when voice chat is added) is the same thing as not having voice chat at all, as some people will just mute or lower the volume if they don't want to be bothered.

I don't think the voice is needed, but there could be more options for the V key text. Once you have the internal key voice, the dissonance increases and the game becomes much more difficult and unfriendly to new players.

People are constantly ignoring objectives, being too tunnel-visioned on their lanes. When an enemy team infiltrates the keep, almost no one redeploys. My suggestion would be to either add voice chat or make notifications about keep being invaded or core being hit much bigger and louder, maybe with more "aggressive" sounds and pop-up redeploy button below the notification

BUT the commander sure needs to be able to talk to his team

also maybe squad Voice chat?

and the leader of the squad can talk to the commander?

this way, commander can give out orders and squads can communicate without audio polution (20 people on the same Voice chat would be Very chaotic)

I hate toxicity but I hate not having chat at all even more, especially when I play commander, I have already made suggestions to improve commander life but this one is another that would help.

When chat is added (hopefully) just add the ability for a person to mute that player if they do not want to hear it, and please DO NOT add a feature where 4 toxic players can get someone muted or kicked for all voting someone for no reason, player based punishment never works how intended DO NOT make the same mistakes other developers make.

just add text to chat to squad so people are not focused on something else. so many games I've played where the enemy have no defences no doors and all the team is doing is defending and ignoring pings. many games i have played where i get into the enemys core places a warp gate and nobody spawns on it. this is horrible when it comes to trying to communicate with your team

not needed, look at LOL, the text only use to bulb, argue and scold.

The players who want to talk and coop, will find their own team and their own talk system(Discord, skype, etc), a group of stranger in PVP normally no any good words to each others, (even texting) it only cause problem.

For player who know how to coop, they do not need to talk and know how to do the things they should, for those don't know how to coop, even you talk they will not listen, so in my view, this is useless feature.

Chat is still not in the game. Are you guys not afraid that your game will die out because people find it frustrating that there is bunch of other players on their team but they all run around like headless chickens? Get your priorities straight and understand your market tageted group.
If the fear is that people will be toxic on your game, then you should prepare a counter-measure to punish players who are found to be toxic.
Don't ban them, kick them or mute them. Turn off their EXP and loot for 1 match. Then they will end up playing only to flame, realize they are wasting their time and either stop or quit. This will weed/straighten out the toxic chatters.

This will also help the mentality of those who are getting flamed by the toxic players. I myself would not be offended or annoyed by a person who logs onto his computer plays a video game with no rewards other than the satisfication of being an asshole online.

If you que up for command you can be selected as Commander or Squad Leader. Each Squad gets a leader and those leaders, plus the commander, get voice or text chat capabilities. Squad leaders can talk to their squads but don't allow squads to be able to talk back. Helps reduce toxicity while also allowing competitive leaders to shot call more efficiently.
