[Feature] Please don't gender lock classes.
I know it's cartoony and stuff and I'm sure I'll get flack for this but I would be much happier playing big knight lady and would probably want to play that class better. It's a personal preference but that's me.
I feel like it would appeal to a lot more audiences, open up diversity if you did that instead of gender locking. Even just a 'male' and 'female' version with similar body types would fit the aesthetic and make it enjoyable.

Acidph1I upvoted but I don't want Dev's to push back the release date just for this update.
Maybe in Warlander v3.0 -

VeJust want to add that this should def be a thing, My main gaming partner is female so her only having one choice out of the options isn't a good thing. Also gender-locking is just so lame and completely unnecessary!

EvilEtho@acidph1 I'm sure if they added this, which i would love to have also. The only hard part would be a making all the armor for them. They could use the Same models for both the Warrior and Cleric and just swap them around, and remapping the animations to them. The wizard(Witch) on the other had would need its own model made for it I'm sure tho. That being said if they did start working on this they still have 3 whole months to make something like this happen, and even if it didn't make it to launch, it would be a nice little update to keep players playin!

Daniel HendoI Vote No. The characters have a certain look for a reason. It's so we can spot the class in the middle of chaos. This isn't an RPG. I can see why it would be nice but this game just wouldn't look right with all the different silhouettes.
-

JulianTotally agree with Daniel Hendo, this doesn't have any sense at all.
-

Jimm K.Must disagree to Daniel Hendos post. Classes can be spotted from afar even if male/female. Body type, armor, walking and attack animations already do a good job at differencing them from each other.
Swapping models would be a bad choice. as mentioned, the body types/animations of each character were made for a reason. Granted, making new models is hard work, but it would absolutely pay off. -

Klaus BerdoleI say yes, I would prefer to play Cleric as a male character, Also to argue against Daniel Hendo you can tell the difference in classes by the weapon and/or shield very easily. To say anything differently is being intellectually dishonest.

ElmoeKahni know lots of gamers who wont play certains games due to gender locked classes. that being said i dont think this would be a big issue here. it would still be cool.

8BeanzElmoe Khan has a point, usually some people love deep customization and gender locking really restricts it.

LucienneI play games for fun and I'm not particularly enjoying IRL gender locks. For me it's important and it allows me to enjoy and immerse myself in games. I would greatly appreciate it if players would be able to choose.

NyaI really hope the gender lock is removed. I understand needing visual clarity for classes, but as others have said, having the female knight still be huge and bulky would work great. Don't even necessarily need a new body if it's all under armor, just a new head and voice would be enough imo, and would seriously cut down on the work required.

reyaliteim a male gamer and i refuse to play male characters in most games i dont see why in games like this they always get gender locked its not that hard to jsut have male and female variations for all classes

FiI agree.
While I understand that they may be basing this on the period of time where men and women had 'stereotypical roles'—if they are, I would love to see strong warrior women on the battlefield, female wizards, and pious male clerics.
If they truly must gender-lock the classes, they could just create alternatives of each class: Shieldmaiden or Virago for Warrior, Sorceress or Witch for Wizard, and Priest for Cleric. -

ErinI think it's better the way it is Now, 50 players against 50 players with all different characters would really be a mess especially in trying to figure out who has what class. Now it's simple the skinny shoot magic, the women heal and the big men are Warriors, going forward you could add other characters (as I'm recommending) with different features maybe tall and robust women like berserkers, another one I recommended is the rune mage which is a woman in a long tunic

DonkeyKongContraI vote No. Classes are fine the way they are now.

QuentinQuarantinoI'd rather they lock the classes to a gender to have a uniform hitbox than that become a "male or female is better" thing depending on how big they are to hit.
What does it matter what gender your fantasy character is anyways. -

AtteecusI upvoted but there are more important changes needed before this.

YamaAgreed, I would feel much better playing cleric if there was a male option. Just a personal preference as someone who self inserts into games.

XTREEM BALLRNo. Silhouettes matter in a game like this. Need to easily tell what class is which.

RyanYeah, no. Definitely don't do this. Would take way to much time to do.

JewelWould love to see a gender option for all classes.

AsterConsider that having a male cleric would inherently be weaker than female due to the increased hitbox, I imagine it would cause alot of balancing issues along with increasing the workload to introduce cosmetics which is how they monetize the game
-

ExcidiusThis is one of the first things I noticed in this game, is it one of the most important things to focus on? no, but is it something that would possibly make the game more enjoyable for some people.
It will increase developer workload but many games have gone this route and don't seem to have issues. To monetize a game do not forget that people first have to spend money on the game and those that care about what their character looks like are probably a part of that market don't you think? -

VerkoziusJust make the female knight as bulky and tall as the male knight, while slightly showing female proportions.
Male cleric must be a bit taller than the female cleric.
Female mages must be a bit shorter than a male mage, while it shows feminine body shape. -

GrizzleThis was a thing in Happy Wars, which Toylogic also made. It'd be nice to see gender options for all the classes in this game too, though it'd probably be a lot more work considering this game's art style isn't as simple and all the cosmetics would have to be compatible with both genders.

RukioI'd also be interested for guy and gal options for each characters. Wizard would probably need to be renamed to like.. Magician or Mage or something.
Someone brought up the point of characters needing to be identifiable at a glance. This would be pretty easy as you could make a ripped gal rocking the knight armor. Think Sonya from Heroes of the Storm (Diablo universe). -

Giggles121 MergedIt is 2023 and, at least here in America, gender identity is a big topic. My suggestion is to allow all classes to be male/female, and potentially even offer some gender neutral appearance options for those who choose not to identify as male or female. The reason I think this should be added is because there is really no reason why a mage couldn’t be a woman. I’m sure people would appreciate the ability to truly make the characters they want. I understand that this may create the issue that classes may be harder to identify due to the potential of character models looking similar, but I’m sure we could come up with a way to make the male warriors look different from the male clerics for example.

jsmileInstead of the strict gender binary, how about making masculine, feminine, and neutral faces and body shapes that you can choose like you do your character customizations now, let me have a crew cut and a female face. Hoping for an update because I don't like playing characters outside of my gender (personal preference), so I won't be.

RoseOfEnvy MergedYou can be more creative with skins and cosmetics for each class, make the people feel happy to have that kind of freedom. You wouldn’t lose anything and you would without a doubt make more money since people would more likely see a skin they want on that class!
